Tracking Changes

Track and review text modifications to your CP

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Tracking changes allows you to display insertions and deletions to the main content in real time as edits are made.

Data fields

In the system, data fields are displayed in green bold italics.

In exported PDFs, the presentation of data fields varies:

  • In the Charter Party PDF, in Draft or Working Copy status, they align with the system presentation described above

  • In the Clean PDF, they are shown in black bold italics

  • In the exported Recap PDF, data fields are presented in BLACK UPPERCASE

Main Form Terms and Clauses

When creating a new contract, you start with a clean copy of the base form template for that Charter Party. There are no additional clauses, addenda, or populated data fields. You can edit most main terms (clauses) by directly clicking on a line and modifying the content.

Additions will be displayed in green bold italics.

Deletions will be shown in red strikethrough.

Changes will be reflected as shown above when edited in the Recap tab or Charter Party tab within the Draft / Working Copy Charter Party PDF.

In the Clean PDF, they will be presented as black bold italics and black strikethrough. However, they are not visible in the Recap PDF, which exclusively displays data fields.

When copying an existing CP, any changes will also be copied to the child CP and will appear as they did in the clean / final output, changing from red / green to black.

Additional modifications to the main terms in the child CP will function as previously described. However, altering inherited changes from the parent CP will be marked with red bold italic strikethrough when deleting text originally added in the parent.

Note that the red strikethrough is styled with bold and italic formatting to clearly differentiate it from deletions of base terms.

Additional / Rider Clauses

When Additional Clauses are incorporated, they are recognized as additions to the CP, presented as green text with the title highlighted in green bold underline. Subsequent changes are streamlined into the final text, retaining additions in green while excluding deletions.

This consistent presentation applies across the Recap tab, Charter Party tab, and the Draft / Working Copy Charter Party PDF. There is no variation in behavior between library clauses and user-defined additional clauses.

In the Clean PDF, the text is converted to black.

When creating a copy of a CP, additional clauses are transferred to the child document, converting from green additions to black text, with deletions eliminated during the process. The modifications are then finalized, preparing them for further editing in the child, where they are integrated as main clauses.

Rich Paste Mode for Additional / Rider Clauses

For adding or editing Additional / Rider Clauses, the rich text mode is available. By selecting the rich paste mode button, you can copy and paste styled content from external sources, including full tables, bold text, and strikethrough text.

As Additional Clause text is consistently treated as an addition to the form (and thus presented in green italics), there is no mechanism to track deletions due to the absence of a base text.

Users might occasionally attempt to signify deletions from standard additional clauses by pasting strikethrough text from external sources, a feature enabled exclusively through Rich Paste Mode.

Although styling elements (such as bold, underline, and italics) will be displayed in Revisions (insert link) and the Summary of Changes (insert link), the system will not apply green or red coloring to these texts unless there is a change in wording.

This could result in scenarios where users view a clause in the Summary of Changes but struggle to distinguish between additions and deletions. In such instances, focus on variations in text styling to identify modifications.

An example of a clause featuring a styling amendment, as it appears in the Summary of Changes (in bold font) is provided below.
